The exhibition consists of photos that were selected for their representation of “real life”. Mostly portraits of underprivileged humans like egyptian workers in Jordan, single mothers raising their children in Iran, but also a heroine addicted woman in Amsterdam, who found her unconscious boyfriend dead in the hallway after putting a blanket over his seemingly unconscious body the evening before. Berlin’s Fashion scene has been growing and maturing tremendously over the past years. Next to the numerous fashion shows, trade fairs, awards and numerous events, the schedule is extended by another major appointment: The Berlin Fashion Film Festival fills the gap of significant fashion media supporting the development of further labels and creatives.

Film has experienced growing popularity among fashion designers in recent times, producing a (short) film is a less expensive medium to present a show. Designers have chosen a motion picture over a presentation at the tent at Brandenburg Gate.

The jury consists of and is responsible for the disciplines
Johan Renck - best cinematography
Yoann Le Goec - best fasion
Diane Pernet - bestfashion film
Till Diestel - best idea
Oliver Koletzki - best music
and the best ESMOD production will receive a six-month-presentation at Konzept86.

Neustadt, ahoi! I traveled to Hamburg, one of my former home towns. Walking through the empty streets of Neustadt (downtown). Since my dear friend and host offered me his new place, I am taking on the city from a new starting point leading to the discovery of some corners that I was not aware of, or in a different way, until now. This is an image made from the Michaelis bridge, actually a quite central place. The filter function makes the sky much brighter than it actually was (about an hour before the ‘blue hour’) but somehow it is the closest to the real view concerning the contrasting colours around the pictured ‘Ellernsgate bridge’ (German: Ellernstorbrücke).

“Gucci’s Creative Director Frida Giannini and Fiat invited Jefferson Hack (Editor in Chief of Dazed & Confused and AnOther Magazine), NOWNESS, Olivier Zahm (Editor in Chief of Purple Fashion magazine), Franca Sozzani (Editor in Chief of Vogue Italy), and Alexi Tan (Film Director) to produce a short film with FIAT’s 500 by Gucci as the inspiration.”

Of the four productions that are to be seen at the Fiat 500 by Gucci website, the one by Franca Sozzani finds my greatest admiration. The utilization of slow motion and high contrast of the merely black and white visuals is emphasized by the orchestral sound arrangement. The boy’s joy after his ice cream ball met the ladies shoe point out how luxury is to not be taken overly serious, it is all about pleasure.

Designer Scouts, the berlin based “platform for extraordinary and upcoming designers that aims to capture the spirit of the creative fashion scene bringing it closer into the context of the international fashion world” (designerscouts.com) is co-curator for this years Fashion & Art Toronto Festival, which takes place from April 24 to 28, 2012 in Toronto, Canada.

Since not all fashion savvy in Berlin will travel to Toronto, Designer Scouts created an event this friday in Berlin. Participation is allowed only for accredited guests.

Participating labels in Toronto and Berlin are: Augustin Teboul, Esther Perbandt, Howitzweissbach, Isabel Vollrath, JULIAANDBEN, Lisa Shahno, Moga E Mago, Sadak, Tata Christiane und Von Bardonitz. If you desire to participate, get your accreditation here
